First Cohort Experience

Yesterday around 1 PM I met up with Cammie, Evan, and Maddie for the first time since the interviews to work on our not-so-lovely blog (at the time). When I first arrived at the San Pablo library, though, we first got down to banner photo business with Don.

One of the most important things about the blog is not only the written content but what people first see as they open the site. Afterward, we began working on the layout and overall appearance of our blog.

Don reminded us to focus on a specific aspect of the blog, get that done and the proceed to work on other minor things.We had so many options to choose from, but luckily Evan had done some prior work on his own test blog and Maddie had tried some options as well. 

We were able to all agree on what the blog was going to look like (we even implemented a favicon) and by the time we were all home we had a finished product. It was also nice to get to know my cohort a little more since we're going to spend so much time together, and I'm excited for further events with them.

When Nerds Unite for Blogging

Today my cohort (Cammie, Evan, and Joceline) and I gathered with Don to work on our blog. 

We had a lot of fun and everyone had something new to bring to the table. We had someone slightly experienced to work on design, another on colors, and so on. Eventually we got the blog put together and we all really enjoy it, I believe. It’s been such a pleasure to work with them and we’ve barely been actually together for an hour and a half.

I feel like this group is a very good group and we are all going to have a very great time back in Tennessee this summer. We’re thinking of planning more cool things to do together before we leave and while we’re there. Maybe we can go to the Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald? Who knows at this point, the world is at our fingertips at this point.

Well, I really need to go to sleep, I have a long day at school tomorrow. I hope to write another entry for you all again soon!

An Afternoon of Blogging

This Sunday I spent about 2 hours with my cohort - Cammie, Joceline, and Maddie. We figured out our template, the background, colors, and a bunch of other key elements of our blog. Formatting, rules, and more were all covered in the time we spent together. Don has done this just a few times before (read: understatement) and he was very helpful throughout our session.

I think we're all getting along pretty well, and I can't wait to go to Vanderbilt with them in the summer!

Editing the Blog

Today, we spent a couple hours together, as a cohort, making changes and edits to our blog at our local library. I started my day by picking up Evan, then we drove to the library where we met up with Don and took some new headshot pictures. Soon after we got our headshots taken, Maddie and Joceline arrived and we took a picture for the blog banner.

Then, we got down to business and started to discuss what changes we needed to make to the blog. After a few hours we agreed on a new layout, background, font, and more. Don helped and designed our blog banner, which came out very well.

It was nice to get to know everyone and work together, I'm excited for our upcoming time at Vanderbilt together!
